Field guide standards Research methodology

Use the original record whenever possible.

The guide is designed to point readers toward primary and current sources rather than reproduce unsupported claims or build conclusions from promotional summaries.

01

Source hierarchy

Priority is given to peer-reviewed publications, PubMed records, clinical-trial registries, current official product labels, regulator materials, and original research documents. Secondary material may help orient a reader, but it should not replace the original record where that is available.

02

What gets published

Public entries are written to distinguish what a source studied from what it did not establish. When a reliable fact, study, approval status, or source cannot be verified, the page should say so rather than fill the gap with an inference.

03

Change and review

Research, labels, trial status, and regulatory information can change. Editorial review dates show when a guide record was last checked; they are not a guarantee that every external source remains current at every moment.
